San Jose Del Valle is recognized as one of the centers for Charreria competition in the state of Nayarit and the country. Charrería, also known as Jaripeo is a sport and discipline arising from equestrian activities and livestock traditions used in the haciendas of old Mexico. The competitions include cala de caballo, piales, and terno en el rodeo, all of which demonstrate the skills cattle ranchers use in hunting down runaway cattle, ranch sorting for livestock branding, and pinning down bulls and horses. The events are held in the Lienzo Charro, a circular arena. The Lienzo Charro in San Jose was the location for the PEACE Clinic this week. We were treated to witness some of the charros practicing and training this week for upcoming events. We are grateful to Isabel for helping to organize, promote, and coordinate volunteers including Nelly, Judith, and Chef Paul. There are usually many pet owners that stay to care for recovering animals as well. The clinics here are always well attended and the team of veterinarians work very efficiently in the spacious area provided.
